3. Couples Participants who dressed in Retro theme gets bonus points.
4. Be ready for next fun filled 4- 5 rounds on stage.

Rules & Violations

Basic Volleyball Rules

  • 6 players on the court at any one time - 3 in the front row and 3 in the back row
  • Maximum of 3 hits per side
  • Points are made on every serve for wining team of rally (rally-point scoring).
  • Player may not hit the ball twice in succession. (A block is not considered a hit.)
  • Ball may be played off the net during a volley and on a serve.
  • A ball hitting a boundary line is in.
  • A ball is out if it hits an antennae,  outside the court, any of the net or cables outside the antennae, the referee stand or pole, the ceiling above a non-playable area.
  • It is legal to contact the ball with any part of a player’s body.
  • It is illegal to catch, hold or throw the ball.
  • A player cannot block or attack a serve from on or inside the 10-foot line.
  • After the serve, front-line players may switch positions at the net.
  • Each Team will be playing 3 games each of one set. Team that score 21 points wins,  winning team gets 2 points. 
  • Semi-final and final will be three set game each of 21 points. Team winning two sets goes to finals
  • Top four teams will be qualified for semi-finals. In case there is tie in the points, among the top team

Below rules are applied in the order

#1 Rule -  If the two tied teams have played earlier, the winning team will go to semis

#2 Rule - if Rule #1 doesn't apply, the average of winning games difference between two teams will be compared. Eg: If Team#A(21/18 - 3pt diff, 21/12 - 9 pt diff, 19/21 - NA) and Team #C (21/15 - 6pt, 16/21 - NA, 21/19 - 2 pt) are tied with points. Team#A avg 6 and Team#B avg 4. Team#A goes to Semis

#3 Rule - If Rule#2 is also equal, then a 5 pointer game will be played

Basic Volleyball Rule Violations

Rule violations that result in a point for the opponent

  • When serving, the player steps on or across the service line as while making contact with the ball.
  • Failure to serve the ball over the net successfully.
  • Ball-handling errors. Contacting the ball illegally (double touching, lifting, carrying, throwing, etc.)
  • Touching the net with any part of the body while the ball is in play.
  • When blocking a ball coming from the opponent’s court, it’s illegal to contact the ball when reaching over the net if both your opponent has not used 3 contacts AND they have a player there to make a play on the ball.
  • When attacking a ball coming from the opponent’s court, contacting the ball when reaching over the net is a violation if the ball has not yet broken the vertical plane of the net.
  • Crossing the court centerline with any part of your body is a violation. Exception: if it is the hand or foot. In this case, the entire hand or entire foot must cross for it to be a violation.
  • Serving out of rotation/order.
  • Back-row player blocking (deflecting a ball coming from the opponent) when, at the moment of contact, the back-row player is near the net and has part of his/her body above the top of the net. This is an illegal block.
  • Back-row player attacking a ball inside the front zone (the area inside the 3M/10-foot line) when, at the moment of contact, the ball is completely above the net. This is an illegal attack.

Basic Throwball Rules

  • Each team will consist of 6 active players and 4 substitutes. 
  • Each team will be playing three games against other three teams. Team that scores 21 points is the winner, each win gets team 2 points and the top two teams will be in the finals. In case of tie, the team who won the game between tie team goes to finals.
  • The right to choose the initial order of serving, receiving and ends shall be decided by lot and the winner may choose to serve or to receive first or to start at a particular end.
  • Players are expected to be at the court at least 30 minutes prior to the game. If the players fail to show up the match will be cancelled and the opponent will be declared a winner. 
  • Teams will be divided into groups. Knock out round starts after each team has played the teams in their group. 
  • Double touch (juggling the ball in both hands) is not allowed while receiving the service ball. 
  • Players cannot catch the ball with the assistance of body or legs. 
  • The ball should be served after the whistle and with in 5 sec. 
  • The ball should be served without crossing the service line with single hand. 
  • Any ball after catching should be released with in 3 seconds. 
  • During the service, the ball cannot touch the net. 
  • A player can jump when throwing the ball or while serving. 
  • Players cannot touch the net during the play but the ball can touch the net. 
  • A player while releasing the ball cannot rotate (360 degrees) or turn around to throw the ball. 
  • During catching or releasing, the ball should not touch any part of the body except the palm. 
  • 2 players cannot catch the ball simultaneously. 
  • Any ball falling on the side-line or end-line is a good ball. 
  • Shifting the ball from right to left or left to right or deliberately pushing is not permitted. 
  • The service ball or the rally ball should not touch the poles. If it touches, then it is considered a foul. 
  • The serving player always rotates one position clockwise. 
  • During the play or rally, players cannot cross the net or obstruct the opponent team. 
  • 2 timeouts (3 min) are permitted for each set. 
  • Teams can substitute only when it is their turn to serve; only exception is if a player gets injured. Only 1 person can be substituted at a time up to a maximum of 3 substitutes per set. 
  • Umpire decision is final (no exceptions). Even if it was wrong call from the Umpire, the decision stays. 
  • Only the Coach or the captain can talk to the Umpire before or after the server (not during the play).

To Participate in the Event

  • Player should be member of Carolina Kannada Balaga. You can check your membership by accessing the Member Directory here. If you are not CKB member, you can become member by registering here.
  • Every player participating in VolleyBall or ThrowBall should e-sign the CKB 2019 - Sports Meet Activity Waiver Form here.
  • Capitan of the Team please register your Team using Registration form from here. Last Date for Team Registration by Sept 18th.
  • Team Captain's should email the team members by Sept 28th and collect respective teams Registration Fee of $5 for each member. We will be reaching out to you to collect the Team's total Fee.
  • Based on number of Team registered, we will announce line-up on Oct 2nd and how the bracket to finals
