Carolina Kannada Balaga (CKB) is a non-profit cultural organization based in Charlotte, North Carolina formed by the people living in Greater Charlotte area originally hailing from Karnataka region in India and people who are interested in preserving and promoting Kannada literature, language, culture and heritage of Karnataka.
Founded in 2008, Carolina Kannada Balaga has grown rapidly and today it boasts of 400+ memberships and is managed by dedicated team of volunteers. The cultural, educational and social events are hosted periodically every year providing an opportunity to cultivate, promote, foster and develop the advancement of the knowledge of Kannada language, literature and culture in the community at the same time cherishing the values of liberty, freedom and mutual respect of adopted land.
Kannada (ಕನ್ನಡ [ˈkʌnːəɖɑː]) is a Dravidian language spoken predominantly by Kannada people in India, mainly in the state of Karnataka, and by significant linguistic minorities in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and abroad. The language has roughly 43.7 million native speakers, who are called Kannadigas (Kannadigaru).
Karnataka is a state in southwest India with Arabian Sea coastlines. The capital, Bengaluru (formerly Bangalore), is a high-tech hub known for its shopping and nightlife. To the southwest, Mysore is home to lavish temples including Mysore Palace, former seat of the region’s maharajas. Hampi, once the medieval Vijayanagara empire’s capital, contains ruins of Hindu temples, elephant stables and a stone chariot.
